Rain Hits Karachi as Dark Clouds Appear in the City

Karachi’s skyline has transformed as heavy, dark clouds signal the start of the monsoon season. Today, areas like Surjani Town, New Karachi, and North Karachi are witnessing strong winds and heavy rainfall. The black clouds are accompanied by dusty winds, creating a dramatic shift in the city’s usual weather.

In neighborhoods including Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Malir Memon Goth, Gulshan-e-Maimar, Surjani Town, North Nazimabad, and Nazimabad, residents are experiencing the full force of the monsoon with torrential rains and gusty winds. Meanwhile, lighter drizzles are softly touching down on places like I.I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, and the Old City area, bringing a refreshing change.

Earlier today, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz predicted the first monsoon rain for Karachi. Speaking with Geo News, he noted that while Karachi will mainly see light showers, some areas could have moderate rainfall. He emphasized that no heavy rain is expected in Karachi or across Sindh until at least July 20. However, he did hint at the possibility of more intense rains later in July and into August.

The monsoon’s arrival has also affected Karachi’s coastal breezes. The usually brisk sea winds have slowed due to low air pressure, contributing to the city’s increased heat and humidity. Over the next few days, Karachiites can expect higher temperatures, a trend Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz attributes to rising humidity levels, reminiscent of the conditions seen in June.

As we move through July, it’s clear that Karachi’s weather patterns are shifting. The city’s residents are bracing for the typical monsoon mix of rain and heat, a blend that defines this time of year. With heavy rain on the horizon later in the month, Karachi continues to adapt to the changing rhythm of the monsoon season.
