People in Punjab struggling with intense smog finally have some relief in sight, as the Meteorological Department forecasts light rainfall across many districts. Starting this evening, a fresh spell of rain is expected, which may ease the smog levels that have plagued cities across the province.
From now until November 16, various areas like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Khushab, and Sargodha are likely to experience scattered showers. For people in these areas, the upcoming rainfall brings a sigh of relief and hopes of a cleaner, fresher atmosphere. On November 15, other districts like Bhakkar, Layyah, and Dera Ghazi Khan might also see thunderstorms, which could further reduce the air pollution.
The impact of this rain isn’t limited to Punjab. Throughout the week, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to get some rainfall, and mountainous areas might even witness early snowfall, making it a scenic yet impactful weather change for these regions.
Due to the visibility issues caused by smog, the Motorway Police has closed several motorway sections. According to a spokesperson, M-2 from Islamabad to Sheikhupura, M-3 from Lahore to Darkhana, M-5 from Sher Shah Multan to Sukkur, and the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway have all been temporarily closed.
The weather change brings both hope and a bit of inconvenience for travelers. For now, people are advised to plan ahead and stay safe during this transition as Punjab awaits a much-needed break from the smog-filled skies.
