The relocation of Rano bear from Karachi Zoo to Islamabad started today under court orders. The Sindh High Court directed authorities to hand over the animal to the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board after reports of poor conditions at the zoo.
Rano Bear’s Departure and Health Assessment
Before departure, teams placed Rano bear in a special transport cage and examined her health and diet. Veterinarians decided not to sedate her during the trip to ensure safe movement. Officials completed final checks on Rano’s food and behavior before loading her for transport.
Airlift from Karachi Zoo to Islamabad
The journey began from Karachi Zoo to PAF Base Faisal, where Rano bear boarded a C-130 aircraft for Islamabad. A team of veterinarians and trainers accompanied her. Upon arrival, Rano will move to the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board’s quarantine and rehabilitation area for further care.
The relocation order was granted by the Sindh High Court on the basis of reports which had shown that Rano was living in bad conditions at Karachi Zoo. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation may have voiced opposition to the move yet the court overturned it and directed its immediate transfer.
Future Plan for Rano Bear
Rano bear will remain in the supervision of Islamabad after he has been taken in. Her health and adaptation to the new environment will be managed by the Wildlife Board. This action will enhance the standard of animal care and the management practice of zoos in Pakistan.
