Karachi: Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi has given former SSP Rao Anwar to police for judicial remand on Saturday until May 2. He is being investigated for a case of extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud. The case had gotten a lot of attention as there were protests being held by Pashtun society in Karachi.
The former SSP Rao Anwar along with 11 of his arrested subordinates and 14 absconders are suspects in abduction of Naqeebullah for ransom and later killing him, in a staged encounter in Malir. Naqeebullah and three other detained men were first said to be killed under the false pretense of an encounter against terrorists.
Anwar, along with other suspected police officers, after killing Mehsud and three others planted false evidence on them which included pistols and grenades. They later registered a false case against the victims under the Sindh Arms Act for illegal possession of arms and explosives.
