Rawalpindi is set to witness a transformative shift in public transportation with the introduction of 102 electric buses, covering an 84-kilometre area across the city. This eco-friendly initiative, spearheaded by the Punjab government, promises cleaner, greener, and more efficient transit options for residents.
Routes for Rawalpindi Electric Bus Service
The electric bus service will operate on four routes designed to connect key areas of the city:
- Route 1: Islamabad International Airport to Railway Station
- Key stops: GT Road, Kohinoor Mill, and Race Course.
- Route 2: Railway Station to Chaklala Scheme Three
- Passes through Saddar and Kacheri.
- Route 3: T-Chowk to Kacheri Chowk
- Covers DHA Phase Five, Bahria Phase Seven, and Ayub Park.
- Route 4: Adiala Jail to Metro Station Saddar
- Stops include Lal Kurti and Khawaja Corporation.

The project’s estimated cost exceeds Rs7 billion, with Rs4.7 billion allocated by the Punjab government for its implementation. - Execution Timeline:

Infrastructure Development

The old GTS bus depot will be revamped to house 100 buses. - Adamjee Road Terminal:
A modern terminal equipped with 40 electric charging stations will be constructed.

The project aligns with an agreement signed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China. The collaboration focuses on curbing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable public transport.
