Rawalpindi Metro Bus Route Expands with New Stop at Chandani Chowk
In a significant development, the Punjab MassTransit Authority (PMA) has extended the Rawalpindi Metro Bus route, now boasting a total of seven stops, as revealed by an official to a national daily.
The announcement comes alongside news that the repair work on the 6th Road bus station is set to be completed by January 6. Previously comprising six stops from Saddar to Faizabad, the addition of the Chandani Chowk Bus Station aims to alleviate the commute for individuals heading to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital.
The official emphasized that the metro bus service has effectively reduced travel time between Islamabad and Rawalpindi by an impressive 20 minutes. “The bus service saves 20 minutes, as regular service usually stops at 24 bus stations between Rawalpindi and Islamabad,” the official stated.
Furthermore, the repair work on the 6th Road station, which damaged during an incident involving supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on May 9, is on track to completion by the end of the week, according to Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General Saif Anwar Jappa.
For the rehabilitation of the 6th Road Metro Station, the caretaker Punjab government has allocated a budget of Rs. 99 million. Additionally, in the second phase, partially damaged bus stations at Faizabad, Khtam-e-Naboowat (Shamsabad), and Committee Chowk will undergo repairs amounting to Rs. 34 million.
This expansion and infrastructure improvement not only enhance the efficiency of the Rawalpindi Metro Bus service but also contribute to the overall convenience of commuters, marking a positive stride in public transportation for the region.
