The Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) project, after undergoing revisions, is on the verge of securing crucial approvals from the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). On June 7, reports indicated significant strides in the project’s advancement, following its earlier approval by the Planning and Development Department.
The commitment from the Punjab government towards the Rawalpindi Ring Road project stands at PKR 4 billion. Commissioner Aamir Khattak confirmed that additional funds earmarked in the upcoming fiscal year, ensuring the project remains on track for completion by December, adhering strictly to the outlined timeline. This year alone, Punjab has allocated a substantial PKR 7.8 billion for the project, bolstering progress after acquiring the requisite land.
Originally estimated at PKR 31 billion, the project’s cost has now escalated to PKR 38 billion. Spanning a distance of 38.3 kilometers from Baanth (G.T. Road) to Thalian, the Rawalpindi Ring Road encompasses five strategically positioned interchanges at Baanth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, and Thalian.
A significant aspect of this development is the planned industrial zone along the ring road’s route. This industrial area envisioned to complement the infrastructure, offering six lanes with controlled access and designed for a speed of 120 km/h, thus enhancing connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation in the region.
