Regent Plaza Karachi Hotel Converted Into SIUT Hospital

The Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) has made a significant move by acquiring Regent Plaza, a four-star hotel in Karachi. This acquisition marks a transformative step as SIUT plans to convert the hotel into a state-of-the-art healthcare facility. Located in Shahrah-e-Faisal, a prime area in Karachi, this new facility aims to expand SIUT’s free-of-cost services for patients. The Regent Plaza, known for its luxurious guest rooms and suites, will soon serve a noble purpose, providing crucial medical services to the community.

Dr. Syed Adibul Hasan Rizvi founded SIUT, Pakistan’s top center for kidney care. Dr. Rizvi’s vision offers free dialysis and transplants, hope for patients nationwide. SIUT started in 1970 as a urology department and gained autonomy in 1991. It performs up to 12 transplants weekly, leading medical advancements.

Regent Plaza is located on Shahrah-e-Faisal, a main road in Karachi. The hotel spans 13,200 square yards, with a covered area of 47,034 square yards. SIUT acquired the property for Rs14.5 billion. On Saturday, the Regent Plaza signage was replaced with SIUT’s, marking the start of its new mission.

With the acquisition of Regent Plaza, the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) will significantly expand its capacity. This new facility will add 1,000 beds, allowing SIUT to accommodate more patients and provide comprehensive medical services. Trustee Syed Shabbar Zaidi highlighted the benefits of having the facility on Shahrah-e-Faisal, ensuring easier access for patients. Efforts will made to minimize traffic disruptions by creating an alternate entrance, ensuring smooth traffic flow on this busy thoroughfare.

The transformation of the Regent Plaza into a healthcare facility by the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) is a notable development. The hotel’s existing infrastructure, including its 440 luxurious rooms and various suites, will adapted to meet healthcare needs. This change underscores SIUT’s commitment to providing accessible and high-quality medical services to the community.
