SC Orders Authorities to Remove Encroachments in Karachi, Starting Saddar
On Friday, the Supreme Court ordered that a joint team to form in order to remove illegal encroachments around the metropolis. Remove encroachments in Karachi, was the order that the CJ gave.
A bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar, heard the case against land mafia in Karachi at the SC’s Karachi registry.
Directing that a team be formed, the top judge summoned Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, heads of cantonment, Karachi Development Authority and others on Saturday.
The court has also summoned Inspector General Sindh and Director General Rangers.
Justice Mushir Alam, during the hearing said, “We should start the anti-encroachment drive from Saddar.” To this, Justice Nisar remarked, “Saddar should be the first area to be cleared to set an example.”
Turning to the Karachi’s mayor, the top judge asked him if he will take action, “I do not have the power to take action,” Akhtar stated.
Then, Justice Nisar ordered a team to be formed which will consist of different departments.
Senior journalist Mazhar Abbas, who was present as well told the court, “In Karachi, there is parking mafia, transport mafia and others. I challenge the administration to clear out Saddar in a month’s time.”
Then, Justice Nisar remarked, “When action is taken, you people sit on television and support them.”
