SC Restrain Musharraf From Contesting Elections 2018

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has withdrawn the conditional permission granted to General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf to contest elections 2018.

His lawyer confirmed that Pervez Musharraf will not return to Pakistan on Thursday.

On this significant development, counsel of former President Musharraf informed the bench during hearing of the case filed by Musharraf in 2015 against the rejection of his nomination papers in the 2013 election at Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry.

He said, “Musharraf wants to return to the country but cannot owing to the current situation and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.”

The chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar had earlier inquired about Musharraf and his expected appear before the court.

He asked deputy attorney general to find out if Musharraf will appear before court or not.

Justice Nisar said, “The hearing was scheduled for 2:00pm today but we can wait if Musharraf will appear before court.” He observed that the court staff had to leave for Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

A day earlier, the Supreme Court had directed Musharraf to return to the country by 2:00pm today.
