In the wake of destructive heavy rains, the Balochistan government has announced a week-long suspension of academic activities in schools and other educational institutions. The regions of Gwadar, Chaman, and others have been severely impacted by this weather calamity.
The interim government has issued a notification, stating that due to the severe weather conditions, all educational institutions will be shut down for a week. This decision comes as a response to the significant disruption of daily life and traffic, especially on the Coastal Highway, due to the heavy rainfall in districts like Gwadar, Kech, and others.
The Met Office has forecasted a westerly wave hitting the southwestern regions and has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas. Paramilitary forces have been called in to aid in the rescue and relief operations.
The port city of Gwadar and its surrounding areas have been particularly hit hard, with a record 160mm of rainfall in a single day. This has resulted in extensive flooding in both residential and commercial areas, rendering roads impassable.
