Authorities have clarified that Cambridge O and A level exams will go ahead as planned, despite the government announcing a three-day public holiday from October 14 to 16, 2024, due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to confirm that all exam centers in Islamabad will remain open, and exams scheduled between October 14 and 16 will take place without any changes.
While schools and colleges across the country will observe these holidays, students appearing for their Cambridge exams can breathe easy knowing that their exams won’t be affected. Nawaz emphasized that the three designated examination centers in Islamabad, which are located in Sector E-11, Sector H8, and Noor Mahal on GT Road, will operate as usual.
The public holidays were announced as part of the government’s preparations for the upcoming SCO summit, which will be held in Islamabad on October 15 and 16. This is a major event, with key players like China, India, Iran, and Russia participating in the meeting, so the authorities want everything to run smoothly during the summit days.
Besides schools, the government also ordered the closure of marriage halls, restaurants, and cafes from October 12 to 16 in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Notices have been issued to businesses and traders, warning them of penalties if these rules are violated.
So, if you’re a student sitting for the Cambridge exams, you’re all set to go as per your usual schedule, even with everything else around you slowing down for the summit.
