Pakistan has initiated a week-long nationwide anti-polio drive today, targeting children under five years of age. The goal is to administer polio vaccine drops to over 45.8 million children in the second campaign of this year.
Polio workers will be making door-to-door visits to ensure every child below the age of five receives the vaccine. In addition, Vitamin A supplements will be provided to enhance the children’s immunity.
Dr. Shahzad Baig, the Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center, expressed the program’s dedication to reaching all children with vaccination and health services in a recent interview. He emphasized, “Our primary focus is the welfare of every child, and we are committed to eradicating this disease.”
The anti-polio drive will be active from the 3rd to the 9th of March in thirty-three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moreover, children of families arriving by road transport at various entry points will also receive the polio vaccine to prevent potential transmission.
The health department appeals to citizens for their cooperation with the teams to achieve the complete eradication of this debilitating disease from the country.
