Section 144 in Karachi, Heavy Traffic Ban: New Routes and Timings Explained

Karachi Commissioner Hasan Akbar Naqvi has invoked Section 144 so that heavy vehicles and dump trucks do not enter the city during peak traffic. This is a two-month prohibition that will ensure that traffic flows are simplified and less accidents occur. The government has established certain corridors or essential transport movement such as the Northern Bypass and National Highway.

Karachi’s roads are finally getting a breather. Commissioner Hasan Akbar Naqvi just signed off on a major move to fix the city’s traffic chaos. He issued a formal notification imposing a strict ban on heavy traffic entry in Karachi under Section 144.

For the next two months, you won’t see dumpers or heavy trucks on main city roads between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. This daytime restriction targets the heavy congestion that paralyzes our daily commute. It is a direct response to the growing safety concerns of Karachi residents.

Designated Routes for Heavy Vehicles in Karachi

The administration isn’t stopping logistics entirely but moving them to the outskirts. Drivers coming from the Super Highway must head toward the New Karachi Industrial Area. Those using the National Highway have a set path through Godam Chowrangi, Younis Chowrangi, and Dawood Chowrangi to reach Jam Sadiq Bridge.

To keep trade moving, the heavy traffic entry in Karachi is permitted via the Northern Bypass. Vehicles can navigate through Paracha Chowk, Sims Chowrangi, Gulbai, and Mauripur to reach the Karachi Port. Additionally, the Kathore Link Road serves as a corridor to the National Highway up to the Sassi Toll Plaza.

This Section 144 implementation should significantly lower the risk of accidents during school and office hours. Compliance is mandatory, and local police will enforce these new transit boundaries strictly to ensure public safety.
