The polling in the Punjab Assembly is in progress for the Senate Election.
The Senate election polling began in Punjab Assembly at 9am and will continue till 4pm. A tough contest is expected between Khawaja Hassan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Shahzad Waseem.
In the Senate election, 358 Punjab Assembly members will use their right to vote. Punjab Assembly will be a polling station and provincial election commissioner will act as the presiding officer.
Among 358 members, 185 belong to PTI and its allied parties. The PML-N is expected to get 159 votes of the 162 senators belonging to the party and its allies. The senate seat fell vacant after Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar was appointed governor Punjab.
Dr Shahzad Waseem, PTI candidate, said that he will easily win the Senate election as he has the support of majority of the members. On the other side, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, PML-N candidate also expressed his determination to win the Senate seat.
