ISLAMABAD: After historic KP-FATA merger bill was passed from National Assembly yesterday, the amendment is expected to be passed from Senate today.
Yesterday the KP-FATA merger bill was passed from the National Assembly with over two third majority. Two hundred and twenty-nine members of the National Assembly had voted in favor of the bill.
Only one person had voted against the merger bill. JUI-F and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party was against the bill that would clear way for KP and FATA merger.
The senate is expected to pass the bill today after which it will be sent to President for approval. After President Mamnoon Hussain will approve of it, it will then become a Law.
The bill was presented in National Assembly by Law Minister Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk.
The amendment bill will increase Supreme Court and Peshawar High Court jurisdiction to FATA.
The bill will make amends to seven articles in the Constitution to allow implementations of reforms.
While the session of Assembly in which the Bill was passed, PM Abbasi addressed the lawmakers of the house. He said today this assembly has approved of a historic bill, which will have a wave of positive effects for the country. PM Abbasi then thanked the opposition members for their support.
He further added that they need to provide FATA residents with all the facilities which are available to the people of Pakistan.
