Former Pakistani Senator Mushtaq Ahmad has been released from Israeli custody and is now safe at the Pakistani Embassy in Amman, Jordan, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed.

Mushtaq Ahmad was detained by Israeli forces on 2 October while participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla — an aid mission to Gaza. Pakistan’s Foreign Office had earlier stated they were working “tirelessly” for his safe evacuation through the embassy in Jordan.

His release was part of a larger deportation: 131 flotilla activists released by Israel entered Jordan via the Allenby Bridge.

Now that Senator Mushtaq Ahmed’s release has become a reality, the focus shifts to his repatriation timeline. The Pakistani embassy in Amman is prepared to assist based on his convenience. Officials expressed gratitude to friendly states that supported the diplomatic efforts.

While in detention, Mushtaq later described harsh conditions, saying detainees lacked clean drinking water.

Readers and stakeholders should watch for formal announcements from the Pakistani Foreign Office about the return of Senator Mushtaq Ahmed to Pakistan. The embassy in Jordan and FO have pledged to issue updates.
