In a bid to tackle the escalating street crime in Karachi, the Sindh government has taken a decisive step. The Shaheen Force, a specialized unit, mobilized to restore peace and order in the city. This development announced during a high-level Apex Committee meeting held on Thursday.
Sindh Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, briefed the President about the enhancements made to the Madadgar 15 service. The police force has bolstered with an additional 168 vehicles and 120 motorcycles, aiming to increase their efficiency and reach.
The Director-General of Rangers Sindh presented a four-month report to the President, highlighting the apprehension of 49 individuals involved in street crime within Karachi. The report also revealed that 43 suspects captured, while 13 neutralized during various operations.
The Inspector-General of Police Sindh shared that the police have successfully eliminated 63 dacoits and arrested 418 in the past four months. Efforts are ongoing to locate and recover 20 more individuals.
The police operations have resulted in the rescue of 609 citizens from abduction, with 103 individuals already rescued. However, the operations have not been without cost. Seventeen police officers laid down their lives, and 27 have injured in the line of duty.
The meeting, presided over by President Asif Zardari, held at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi. It was attended by key officials including Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, and DG Rangers Sindh Major General Azhar Waqas.
The President directed the completion of the Karachi Safe City Project on a war footing and called for the city’s internal and external routes to secured with modern barriers. He reiterated a zero-tolerance policy on land grabbing and ordered the protection of Chinese nationals residing in the city.
