In observance of Chehlum, the Sindh Education Department has officially declared a holiday for all public and private schools across the province on Monday, August 26, 2024. The announcement made through a notification issued by the department’s steering committee, highlighting the significance of this religious occasion.
Chehlum commemorates the 40th day after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions, who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala. This day marked with religious devotion and mourning, with processions planned in various cities and towns to honor the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (RA) and his followers.
In Karachi, the central mourning procession will start from Nishtar Park and follow its traditional route, concluding at the Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar. This procession, like others across the province, will held under heightened security measures to ensure the safety of participants.
To further enhance security, the Sindh government has imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province on August 26 and 27, 2024. This measure aimed at ensuring the peaceful observance of Chehlum and safeguarding the public during the processions and gatherings. A separate notification has issued detailing the specifics of this ban.
