Sindh Government to Increase Minimum Monthly Wage to Rs. 32,000

The Sindh government is taking a proactive stance towards improving the livelihoods of laborers by raising the minimum monthly wage in the province. Saeed Ghani, the Minister for Labor and Human Resources, revealed that the minimum wage for laborers in Sindh is set to increase to a range of Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 35,000. This move comes as a response to the challenges faced by low-income and middle-income families due to the rising prices of essential goods.

Sindh was the first province to raise the minimum monthly wage to Rs. 25,000 two years ago, and the government is now building upon that progress. The province’s minimum wage board is currently working on recommendations to implement the new wage structure, which will ensure a more equitable income for laborers.

In addition to raising the minimum wage, the Sindh government has implemented several measures to further support workers and their families. The death grant provided to the family of a deceased worker has been increased from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 700,000, offering greater financial security during times of hardship. Furthermore, the government has raised its assistance for laborers’ daughters’ weddings from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 200,000, enabling families to celebrate these important milestones more comfortably.

Education is another key area where the government is focusing its efforts. The assistance provided for each worker’s child’s education has been raised from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 10,000, emphasizing the importance of quality education for the future of laborers’ families.

Registered laborers with Benazir Mazdoor Cards will benefit from free medical care and other essential assistance, highlighting the government’s commitment to the overall welfare of workers. By devolving the Workers Welfare Fund and the Employees Old-age Benefits Institution, in line with the 18th constitutional amendment, the government aims to further improve support for workers.
