Sindh Govt Budget 2024-25: Free Solar Panels Announced for Public

The Sindh government has announced plans to distribute free solar systems to 2.6 million households in the region as part of the 2024-25 budget. This initiative supports the global shift towards renewable energy sources, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.

During his budget speech, the Sindh Chief Minister revealed that Rs 25 billion allocated over the next five years for this free solar initiative. This plan is in line with the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) policy to provide free solar systems to promote sustainable energy solutions. The “Sindh Solar Scheme 2024” aims to tackle electricity access issues in the province, providing cleaner and more reliable energy to the residents.

In addition to free solar systems, the Sindh government will also introduce discounted solar panels under a Rs 5 billion scheme. Around 200,000 solar panels will distributed, with the government covering 80% of the cost. This effort expected to benefit 500,000 households, significantly improving their quality of life by ensuring a stable electricity supply.

Further expanding its solar energy initiatives, the government plans to set up solar parks and mini-grid stations across Sindh, including Karachi. This development expected to boost the region’s energy infrastructure and provide better access to electricity for its residents. As part of the plan, 100 units of free electricity will be provided to low-income families, helping to reduce their financial burden.

The Sindh budget also features several other key provisions, such as the introduction of the Mazdoor Card program for laborers, salary increases for government employees, and substantial allocations for agriculture, education, health, transport, and local government. With a total budget outlay of Rs 3.056 trillion, significant investments directed towards enhancing the education and health sectors, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving public services and quality of life for the people of Sindh.
