Sindh is set to make history with its first-ever auction of premium number plates scheduled for June 29 (Saturday). This landmark event, announced by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon at a recent press conference in Karachi, promises to revolutionize vehicle registration in the province.
The auction will feature three exclusive categories of number plates: Platinum, Gold, and Silver, each offering different character limits and base prices:
Platinum Plates:
- Maximum of three characters.
- Starting bid at Rs2 million.
Gold Plates:
- Up to five characters.
- Starting bid at Rs1 million.
Silver Plates:
- Accommodates up to seven characters.
- Starting bid at Rs50,000.
Transparent Auction Process
Minister Memon emphasized the transparency of the auction process, stating that participation is mandatory for acquiring these premium plates. The auction will be conducted openly, ensuring fair competition among bidders.
Sponsorship and Revenue Generation
Notably, the auction ceremony will not be funded by the provincial government. Instead, sponsorship will be provided by vehicle manufacturing companies. This initiative is expected to generate significant revenue for the Sindh government, contributing to the province’s financial health.
Government’s Innovative Measures
The introduction of premium number plates was approved by the Sindh provincial cabinet last month. This initiative includes categories for commercial vehicles, non-commercial vehicles, and motorcycles. The upcoming auction is a key step in Sindh’s strategy to enhance vehicle registration and revenue collection through innovative measures.
“We expect this initiative to generate significant revenue for the government,” Memon added optimistically.
The auction of premium number plates marks a milestone in Sindh’s efforts to modernize and streamline vehicle registration. By offering exclusive plates through a transparent and competitive process, the government aims to attract significant interest and participation, ensuring a successful event that will benefit the province’s economy.
