Six newly suspected Omicron cases were reported in Karachi on Thursday.

According to sources within the Sindh Health Department, the suspected patients had a prior travel history.

Four out of the six patients had arrived from South Africa where the Omicron variant was born. Rest of the two patients had traveled back from Britain.

The sources added that samples of the suspected patients were sent to a private hospital for further testing. Meanwhile all the patients have been shifted to a quarantine centre.

So far Pakistan has reported one confirmed and 33 suspected Omicron cases.

Earlier, on Dec 13, the first-ever confirmed Omicron case was detected by the Aga Khan University Hospital.

Moreover, on Dec 22, Balochistan reported at least 30 suspected cases of the Omicron variant in Kalat.

The National Command and Operation Centre has not yet confirmed any cases of the Omicron strain in Kalat.
