Punjab EPA initiates the crackdown on the smoke producing vehicles at schools, hospitals and industries. Every transport vehicle with heavy weight should be subjected to vehicle emissions check as part of the anti-smog campaign by the government. The non-compliant buses, vans, and coasters are fined, impounded and the police take actions to guarantee cleaner air in the winter smog.
Punjab EPA Orders Crackdown on Smoke-Emitting Vehicles
The Punjab EPA has begun a province-wide campaign against smoke-emitting vehicles used by schools, hospitals, colleges, and industrial facilities. Officials say poorly maintained buses, vans, and coasters are a major source of winter smog. All heavy transport vehicles must now undergo vehicle emissions inspection.
Vehicle Emissions Inspection Now Mandatory
All heavy transport vehicles must be checked through the Transport Department’s Vehicle Inspection and Certification System. Only vehicles that meet emission standards will get clearance. Operating non-compliant vehicles breaks Section 15 of the Punjab Environmental Protection Act 1997.
Institutions failing the vehicle emissions inspection risk fines, impoundment, and police seizure. EPA teams will inspect vehicles, issue direction slips, and send weekly compliance reports to the Director General. This step is part of the larger anti-smog campaign in the province.
Excise and Taxation Department will provide district environment officers with registration information of institutional heavy transport vehicles. This will make sure that the authorities will be able to monitor the high-risk smoke-emitting vehicles and implement the anti-smog campaign successfully.
Immediately schools, hospitals and industries should inspect their buses, vans, and coasters. The vehicle emissions test will not attract any fine or lawsuits by passing. Punjab EPA encourages every institution to collaborate in minimizing smog during winter and enhancing the quality of air.
