SunExpress to Launch Operations in Pakistan, Providing Alternatives for Travelers to Turkey

SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, is set to launch operations in Pakistan, providing new alternatives for travelers to Turkey. The airline has applied for permission to start operations in the country, which is currently being processed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and is expected to be forwarded to the Aviation Division.

SunExpress plans to operate flights between Pakistan and Turkey, offering a range of options for travelers who currently rely on Pakistan International Airlines and other flag carriers. The move comes as the airline expands its operations worldwide to support Turkey’s recovery from the damages caused by the earthquake.

According to reports, SunExpress carried 10.7 million passengers and enjoyed a load factor of 85% in 2022, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The airline’s CEO, Max Kownatzki, expressed confidence in Turkey’s recovery and said the focus was on promoting Turkish tourism abroad.

The new development comes just weeks after Virgin Atlantic announced it would be closing operations in Pakistan due to “low yield operations” and Ethiopian Airlines announced plans to begin operations in the country.

Turkey has long been a popular destination for newlyweds and solo travelers from Pakistan due to its rich history, culture, and unique cuisine. The launch of SunExpress’s operations is expected to challenge existing players in the industry to improve their services and facilities, providing travelers with even more comfortable and convenient travel options.

The launch date of SunExpress’s operations in Pakistan is yet to be confirmed. However, the news is sure to be welcomed by travelers looking for more choices when traveling to Turkey.
