ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court dismissed the disqualification appeal against Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed Wednesday morning.
Sheikh Rasheed appeared in Supreme Court early morning today, where a hearing of a petition for his disqualification was underway.
The appeal was filed by PML-N’s Shakeel Awan who had lost against Rasheed in the 2013 elections. The appeal stated that AML chief had mis-declared his assets in nomination papers and even owned that he did so.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the case at Supreme Court. The bench also comprised of Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah. The bench gave the verdict in favor of Sheikh Rasheed and dismissed the petition of his disqualification.
Rasheed had said he was willing to accept and respect the decision of the Supreme Court.
After the verdict the AML chairman said that he has never hid his assets or done anything wrong. He thanked Allah and said that He is the greatest and He kept my respect today.
Talking to the media outside court after the decision, Rasheed said that he is not Nawaz Sharif and would have accepted if court decided against him. He added that he was ready for anything and this court decision has become death for the politics of his rivals.
Rasheed further added that he will hang the people who did corruption after he wins the elections and forms government with Imran Khan.
Even though the bench had dismissed the disqualification, however; Justice Qazi Faez Isa had remarked against Rasheed. He said that a full member bench should be called to handle the case under 62(1)(f) Article of the Constitution.
