Farhan Ayaz, a 14 year old student of the madrassa in Chaliyar, Khwazakhela in Swat, died as a consequence of alleged torture. The police verified that 9 people were arrested, which included the administrator of the madrassa, teachers and staff. The Madrassa has been sealed and some 160-170 students were handed over to their parents.
Following the incident, local residents and activists staged a protest by placing Farhan’s body on the Mingora–Kalam–Matta Road, demanding immediate arrests. A deadline issued to authorities to detain all accused individuals. Multiple arrests confirmed shortly after the protest.
Farhan was reportedly beaten for five hours by three teachers after he returned to the madrassa following a short absence. He was declared dead at Khwazakhela Hospital. His body showed clear signs of physical abuse.
According to the FIR, the accused include Qari Muhammad Umar (madrassa head), his son Ehsanullah, administrator Abdullah, and teacher Bakht Amin. Abdullah and Bakht Amin have been arrested, while the search for Qari Umar and Ehsanullah continues.

Farhan’s uncle claimed that the administrator’s son made inappropriate demands from students, including Farhan. He added that he had raised complaints directly with the administrator, who apologized but took no further action.
Police recovered sticks, chains, and other objects used for abuse from the madrassa. A second FIR was filed under the Child Protection Act after other students reported further incidents. Nine additional staff members were arrested.
