In a significant political development, Murad Ali Shah of the Pakistan Peoples Party has been re-elected as the Chief Minister of Sindh, marking his third consecutive term in office. He garnered an impressive 112 votes in the election.
The voting process, which commenced around 2:00pm, was presided over by Sindh Assembly Speaker Owais Qadir Shah. Despite a 40-minute delay, the session proceeded smoothly to elect the new leader of the house.
In the race for the Chief Minister’s position, Shah faced off against MQM-Pakistan’s Ali Khurshidi, who could only secure 36 votes. The election was further marked by the absence of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and Jamat e Islami, as their lawmakers chose to boycott the Sindh CM’s election proceedings.
