Tajikistan Visa Requirements Waived for Pakistani Citizens

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a significant announcement during his official visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan. He revealed that Pakistan and Tajikistan have mutually waived visa requirements for official passport holders, marking a pivotal development in bilateral relations.

Arriving in Dushanbe on Tuesday for a two-day visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz was warmly received by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon at the Qasr-e-Millat, Tajikistan’s presidential palace. During a press conference, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the newly signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Islamabad and Dushanbe would strengthen ties across various sectors including trade, agriculture, health, education, and investment.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also expressed his commitment to enhancing connectivity between Pakistan and Tajikistan through expanded rail and road networks, aiming to integrate into the broader trade corridor connecting China, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. He highlighted the ongoing transport of goods from Karachi to Tajikistan via Afghanistan, underscoring the potential for increased economic cooperation.

Addressing the shared challenge of terrorism, PM Shehbaz acknowledged both countries’ struggles and emphasized Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism. He stressed the importance of joint initiatives with Tajikistan to counter this threat effectively.

Speaking on regional peace, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized its crucial role in fostering prosperity. He expressed optimism about the CASA-1000 project, set to conclude next year, which aims to boost renewable energy infrastructure in the region.

In addition to discussing regional issues, PM Shehbaz voiced solidarity with global concerns, including the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the conflict in Ukraine. He affirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended during his visit, inviting President Emomali Rahmon to visit Pakistan in return.
