Tarbela dam water level today set to increase significantly following the opening of the spillways. Authorities have confirmed downstream flow will reach between 260,000 and 270,000 cusecs, posing flood risks in low-lying regions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed all district administrations and related agencies to remain in close coordination. Emergency protocols have been activated to mitigate potential damage in areas situated near the Indus River.
The people residing along riverside areas, particularly the fishermen and the livestock herders have also been warned to evacuate in case the situation worsens. People are advised in the strictest terms not to come close to Rivers and streams especially when coming with children before the water level stabilises.
PDMA has also launched a 24/7 (1700) emergency line to provide updates and information. Tourists and inhabitants have to follow directives issued by the district authority to prevent security. PDMA insisted on the need to use verified information and warned people about the dissemination of rumors.
During the monsoon response plan, authorities are monitoring the situation. Additional advisories will issue depending upon weather conditions and discharge patterns.
