Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Friday declared an end to a month long ceasefire with the government.

TTP leaders accused the government of violating the prisoner release agreement along with the formation of negotiation committees.

“In these circumstances, it is not possible to advance the ceasefire,” the TTP said in a statement.

The ceasefire expired on December 9. Some sources familiar with the matter said there might be chances of extending the ceasefire as well.

Talks regarding a ceasefire with TTP began emerging after the Afghan Taliban overthrew the Afghan government with the exit of US from the country.

TTP has also accused the government for not releasing the number of prisoners promised. They alleged that security forces continued conducting raids against them during the ceasefire period.

The PTI government entered into a ceasefire agreement with TTP on November 9.

The truce was a result of many meetings held between security officials and TTP representatives.

It is important to mention that the Afghan Taliban government had brokered the talks.

One of the major TTP attacks was a 2014 assault on a military school in Peshawar that killed 149 people including 132 children.
