Dr. Omer Adil, a well-known TV host and medical professional, has been taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The arrest followed complaints by an information minister and a news anchor from a local TV station.
According to initial reports, the YouTuber was detained by the Cyber Crime Wing of the FIA. He is accused of making false claims against journalist Gharida Farooqi. Gharida Farooqi took to Twitter to confirm Dr. Omer’s arrest, stating it was based on her legal complaint. She accused him of making obscene and defamatory remarks about her and other women working in the media.
Before this, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari had also complained to Dr. Omer Adil. She accused him of making derogatory statements about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and other female journalists in one of his videos. The government minister promised strict action against Dr. Omer.
