A two-day visit of senior US state department official Elizabeth Horst to Karachi concluded. The visit aimed to work on strengthening trade, investment, and economic relations between Pakistan and the United States.
Horst met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah during her visit. They discussed matters on the development of the private sector, the enhancement of the business environment in Pakistan, and establishing mutually identified economic priorities. The two sides consented to strengthen the economic cooperation.
Horst also held talks with representatives of the American Business Council and Pakistani business leaders. The meetings focused on increasing US-Pakistan trade, expanding investment opportunities, and strengthening private sector participation.
Moreover, Horst had the opportunity to meet the participants of the South Asian Regional Women Innovators Mentorship program. She has mentioned US-promoted women empowerment and inclusion programs in technology industries.
The visit will demonstrate the continued economic interest that the US State Department has in Pakistan. It also improves long term business relationships, and development of bilateral trade.
Elizabeth Horst previously served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs and held the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Pakistan from July 2022 to July 2025.
