US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is currently meeting PM Imran Khan at Prime Minister House at the moment.
In the meeting with PM Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other officials are also present.
According to the sources, the talks will revolve around Pak-US relations and peace process in Afghanistan. Mike Pompeo is keen to convince PM Imran Khan’s government for support in Afghanistan.
Upon arrival in Islamabad, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held talks with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
This is the first high-level visit from Washington since the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government assumed office.
Mike Pompeo is accompanied by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford and a four-member delegation.
He was received by Shah Mehmood Qureshi upon reaching the Foreign Office from Nur Khan Airbase.
During the talks at the Foreign Office, bilateral, regional and international issues were discussed.
FM Qureshi emphasized the need to restart bilateral Pak US relation on the basis of mutual trust and respect.
Safeguarding Pakistan’s national interests will remain supreme priority of Pakistan, Foreign office added.
Earlier this afternoon, Mike Pompeo landed in Islamabad and was received by officials of the Foreign Ministry.
Mike Pompeo is also expected to call on PM Imran Khan and Army Chief General Qamar Jawed Bajwa during his brief stay in the capital.
He is due to visit India on the next stop of his South Asia tour where he is expected to pile pressure on New Delhi over its purchases of Iranian oil and Russian missile systems in talks with senior Indian officials.
