ISLAMABAD: Wajid Zia, main witness of prosecution in corruption cases against Sharif family, is being cross examined. Nawaz Sharif counsel Khawaja Haris has begun cross examining Zia in Al Azizia case today.
Wajid Zia, the head of the joint investigation team (JIT), which probed into Sharif family assets is being cross examined today. Zia had finished recording his statement in the Al Azizia reference in the last hearing.
Al Azizia steel mills reference is one of the 3 corruption cases against Nawaz Sharif and his Family. Former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, his sons Hasan and Hussain Nawaz, daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar are booked in these corruption charges. Hasan and Hussain Nawaz, however; have been absconding since last year.
Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz arrived to Accountability Court before the case started. Mohammad Bashir, Judge of Accountability Court I initiated the hearing.
NAB prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi pleaded in court to record the statement of Nawaz and his family in the Avenfield case when the hearing started.
NAB prosecutor and defense counsel commenced arguments after which the court reserved a verdict. The court ruled that it will prepare a questionnaire for the accused ahead of recording their statement.
Previously, Wajid Zia had been finished being cross examined by Khawaja Haris in Avenfield Case after 10 days.
Supreme Court had given a deadline of 6 months earlier to finished the proceedings and give a verdict on the cases. The corruption cases, however; had exceeded the deadline and had to take an extension of two months. The extension had also ended earlier on in May after which another extension was given for which will end in June.
