Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued the drought alert for two provinces of Pakistan and warned about the water crisis.
The water crisis will become severe as Met Department issued drought alert for Sindh and Balochistan. The 70% deficit rainfall observed in Sindh. However, the rainfall in July and August will be below average in the southern parts of Pakistan.
The moderate to severe drought is expected in several areas of Sindh. Shahdadkot, Umerkot, Sanghar, Sajawal, Shaheed Benezirabad, Jamshoro, Khairpur, Tharparkar, Mityari, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Dadu, Karachi may face the drought.
However, the drought is also expected in several areas of Balochistan. Dalbandin, Gwadar, Jiwani, Panjgur, Nokkundi, Ormara, Quetta and Turbat may also experience the drought.
The water level of Keenjhar Lake is also rapidly decreasing that can cause water crisis in Karachi. The water supply in Karachi mainly relies on the Keenjhar Lake. However, the water level is in constant decline that can put the city under the huge water crisis. According to sources, the water level has been reached near 46 feet.
