Karachi: Water supply in Karachi disrupted as a pipeline at Dhabeji bursted.

According to sources, water supply in Karachi suspended due to the bursting of pipeline at Dhabeji and Gharo pumping station. However, around 630 million gallons of water lost due to pipeline burst.

Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) revealed that the 72 inch diameter pipeline burst due to the power breakdown at their pumping station.  The immense back pressure resulted in the bursting of pipeline. However, areas near the pumping station submerged in water as the pipeline burst.

Water supply in Karachi comes from two main sources that are Hub River Dam and Keenjhar Lake (Indus River). However, from there water is later pumped through 3 main pumping stations located at Hub, Gharo, Dhabeji.

In June, Dhabeji Pumping Station also faced the similar situation when the 72 inch diameter pipeline burst because of power breakdown.
