Weather Update: Karachi to Get More Rains in the Evening Today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that Karachi will witness light to moderate rain showers in the evening today, following yesterday’s substantial rainfall across the city.

Today’s weather in Karachi is influenced by a low-pressure system located south of Gujarat, India, which is impacting local weather conditions.

Thunderclouds are expected to develop over Karachi during the afternoon, leading to possible light rainfall later in the day.

Yesterday, Karachi experienced a relief from the scorching heatwave due to a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea. Pre-monsoon showers and thunderstorms soaked various parts of the city and its outskirts. Surjani Town received the highest recorded rainfall at 22mm, accompanied by strong winds of up to 50km/h.

The temperature in Karachi has been consistently high around 40°C, creating a heat index that feels like 52°C for the past five days.

The low-pressure system, previously blocking sea breezes, allowed rainfall to commence from Malir, Kathore, and Surjani Town in the afternoon. Rainfall then expanded to North Karachi, Naya Nazimabad, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulberg Town, Karsaz, Water Pump, Federal B Area, Scheme 33, MT Khan Road, and the old city areas of Kharadar and Denso Hall.

Looking ahead, Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday), with a chance of evening thunderstorms and rain.

The PMD’s Early Warning Centre has cautioned that Karachi and its surroundings may continue to face high heat and humidity until Friday, with intermittent thunderstorms possible.

Additionally, other districts in Sindh, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Hyderabad, and Jamshoro, may experience rain and thunderstorms until June 29.
