Weather Update: Karachiites Wake Up to Pleasant Rain This Morning

Karachi witnessed light rain this morning, setting the tone for a cloudy day ahead. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts more drizzle and light rain for the port city within the next 24 hours. The morning temperature in Karachi was recorded at 28°C, with an expected high of 30°C to 32°C. Winds from the west are blowing at a moderate speed of 13 kilometers per hour, and humidity levels have reached 85%. Alongside Karachi, light rain is also expected in Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin.

The weather forecast extends beyond Sindh, with rain anticipated in various parts of the country, including Islamabad. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz mentioned that monsoon winds are expected to reach lower Sindh by August 16, potentially bringing rain to Karachi between August 17 and 19. He warned that moderate rain, with occasional thunderstorms, could lead to heavy downpours in certain areas of the city.

On a broader scale, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued warnings for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting the risk of urban flooding until August 18 due to the upcoming rains. Regions such as Hazara, Malakand, Peshawar, and Waziristan are on alert for heavy rainfall.

The recent monsoon spell has already taken a toll on the country, with 178 lives lost, including 92 children, since July. The collapse of homes has been a significant cause of these fatalities, and authorities remain on high alert as more rain is anticipated.
