When Will Karimabad Underpass Be Completed? Official Deadline Revealed

The Karimabad underpass project is nearing completion, but electric poles and cables stand in the way. KDA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui visited the site and told K-Electric (KE) to move its infrastructure immediately. This utility relocation is the last major bottleneck. The KDA aims for a swift resolution. KE promised the site would be clear by mid-January 2026. This allows the KDA to finish the remaining construction swiftly.

Karimabad Underpass Update: Delays and Cost Jumps

The Karimabad underpass project is part of Karachi’s Signal Free Corridor. It is now about 85% complete. But progress stalled badly due to utility line issues, especially electrical infrastructure. The cost also exploded. It jumped from Rs. 1.35 billion to a huge Rs. 3.81 billion. The original deadline is gone. Now, KDA targets mid-2026 for completion, if the utility work finishes fast. The Sindh Chief Minister ordered non-stop work to speed things up.

KE Given One Month to Clear Site

The shifting of K-Electric’s infrastructure is the key delay. The KDA already paid KE a full Rs. 60 million for this work. KE representatives assured the DG that they need about one month to move and bury the remaining high-tension cables and remove the poles. This means the construction site should be totally clear of electrical obstacles by mid-January 2026. KDA can then quickly finish the last 15% of the civil work.

Key Route Details of Karimabad Underpass Project Map

The underpass is a single, straight path. It is 1.08 km long and features dual two-lane tracks. The project alignment is crucial. The route runs along the main corridor. It starts near Usman Medical Hospital and ends close to Dr. Ziauddin Memorial Hospital. The design protects local markets like Bazar-e-Faisal and Meena Bazar. The underpass runs beneath them. This separates fast through-traffic from local shoppers. The goal is smoother flow for everyone.
