Will Metro Bus Service in Islamabad Operate Amid JI and PTI Protests?

The Metro Bus service in Islamabad will remain closed due to protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). A notification confirmed that the bus service will be shut from IJP Road to Pak Secretariat to protect public safety. This includes the Red Metro, Green Line, Blue Line, and electric buses, while the Orange Line will only run from Faiz Ahmed Faiz to N5. The airport stop will be closed, but the service in Rawalpindi will continue as usual.

To manage the situation, authorities have sealed the Red Zone in Islamabad with containers ahead of the planned protests at D-Chowk. Islamabad police have also issued a traffic plan for the city. Citizens are advised to use alternate routes if major roads like Rawat Road, Peshawar GT Road, and Srinagar Highway are closed. Suggested alternatives include Rawalpindi Sadar route, the motorway, Peshawar Road, GT Road, Colonel Sher Khan Road, Shahri Park Road, Faisal Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, 7 Avenue, and Shaheed Millat Road.

Local businesses along these blocked routes are also affected. Shopkeepers report a significant drop in foot traffic and sales, with some opting to close early due to the ongoing chaos. This disruption highlights the broader impact of political protests on daily life in Islamabad.
