As the mercury rises across Pakistan, the province of Punjab is the first to announce its summer vacation schedule for educational institutions. The proposed break, spanning from June 7 to August 19, 2024, set to be officially confirmed in the forthcoming week.
The Punjab Education Minister, cognizant of the escalating temperatures, has revealed the summer break plan. Simultaneously, Sindh is mulling over an early closure in response to the intense heatwave. The final verdict anticipated post the completion of Class 9 and 10 examinations, with potential early holidays for students up to Class 8 deliberated.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan slated to disclose their summer vacation plans in the concluding week of May.
The proposed vacation period, extending over two months, follows the traditional pattern observed in previous years, typically beginning in June and concluding in August. This timeline coincides with the arrival of temperatures surpassing the 40 degrees Celsius mark. Weather predictions for May 2024 anticipate a temperature surge to 39 degrees Celsius, expected to cross the 40 degrees Celsius threshold in June 2024.
In a prior advisory, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) cautioned that the peak temperatures could skyrocket to 49.5 degrees Celsius in June, with August likely to witness temperatures peaking at a high of 48.63 degrees Celsius.
