DIG Irfan Ali Baloch has initiated the groundbreaking “Women on Wheels” campaign to foster women’s empowerment in Sindh. This innovative initiative, highlighted in an exclusive interview with “Jang,” is gaining widespread acclaim for its commitment to breaking gender barriers. Baloch shared insights into the campaign, emphasizing the strides made in women’s empowerment across the country, with a special focus on Sindh.
Irfan Ali Baloch sees “Women on Wheels” as a key to women’s empowerment, emphasizing the need to free them from traditional constraints. Currently, women often depend on male family members or drivers for transportation. This initiative aims to change that by enabling women to learn driving, get a license, and be independent. Baloch envisions a future where women can easily handle daily tasks without relying on others.
DIG Irfan Baloch goes beyond personal empowerment, urging women to see driving as a means of livelihood. He envisions women joining online taxi services after getting licenses, supporting themselves and their families. Baloch stresses the safety aspect, highlighting that women driving for such services would offer a secure option for female passengers.
Baloch highlighted success stories from the Tharkol project, where three women have been driving heavy trucks, dumpers, and tankers for years. This showcases how women can attain dignified employment and economic independence through such initiatives.
“Women on Wheels” has organized specialized camps in universities, colleges, and other institutions to help women get driving licenses. Seminars in various educational institutions are also conducted to raise awareness and promote women’s empowerment through driving.
Irfan Baloch shared that driving license branches in Karachi have specific counters exclusively for women, streamlining the process with a female-centric approach. This initiative aims to create an inclusive environment for women looking to break free from societal constraints and embrace the wheel of change.
