Zardari, Faryal Talpur Step Forward Before the Banking Court in Karachi
On Monday, the former president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, appeared before banking court due to an ongoing case of money laundering.
Onmi Group Chairman Anwar Majeed’s three sons, Zulqurnain, Ali and Nimr, also faced the the court in Karachi.
However, the case has been delayed till November 13 as the judge who is supposed to hear it is currently on holidays.
Regardless, the banking court has ordered all those names that are listed in the case to appear before it today. Former Pakistan Stock Exchange chairman Hussain Lawai, Anwar Majeed, Abdul Ghani Majeed and Hussain Lotha are also suspects in the case, alleged to money laundering through fake bank accounts.
Zardari, Talpur and Majeed’s three sons have been granted bail for the case.
The FIA is currently investigating 32 people who are involved with money laundering from fictitious accounts, including Zardari and Talpur. Zardari’s close partner, Hussain Lawai, was arrested in July in connection with the c case.
The former president’s other close partners and Omni Group chairman Anwar Majeed and his son, Abdul Ghani, were arrested by FIA in August.
More than 20 unnamed accounts at some private banks were reportedly opened in the the year 2013, 2014 and 2015, from where transactions worth billions of rupees were processed, according to sources.
According to FIA sources, the account is said to have black money which is gathered from various kickbacks, bribes, and commissions.
