Faryal Talpur, Zardari bail Extended in Money Laundering Case
On Tuesday, the banking court reportedly extended the interim bail granted to former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, till December 10 in a money laundering case.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman and his sister previously appeared before the banking court in Karachi on Tuesday (today) related to the on-going money laundering case of transferring billions through fictitious bank accounts.
After a short briefing, the judge granted extension till December 10 to the PPP leaders and ordered the hearing to postpone till December 10.
What is the Money Laundering Case?
While investigating a total of 32 people in money laundering from fictious accounts, Zardari and Talpur, as well as Hussain Lawai were arrested in July.
Zardari’s close partner and Omni Group chairman, Anwar Majeed and his son, Abdul Ghani, were also apprehended by the FIA in August. Majeed’s three sons have been granted interim bail by the court as well.
More than 20 unidentified accounts at a few private banks were opened in the year 2013, 2014 and 2015 from where transactions worth billions of rupees were conducted.
According to FIA sources, the money is said to be black money which has been gathered from various commissions and bribes.
