Dubai: Careem admitted the hacking of 14 Million users and asked them to change their passwords as soon as possible. Users emails, contact numbers, and names were stolen by a group of hackers. The company said that the financial details are not breached during the incident. However, they advised users to review their bank account details for any suspicious activity. In addition, users are also advised to review their credit card statements.
However, the worst thing is that the hacking incident took place in January but Careem informed customers after three months of the data breach. People are showing their anger that company did not inform them on time. Data Security analysts also criticized company as there is a possibility that data has already been utilized by hackers during the three months. Those users would be affected who sign up before 14th January 2018.
Careem Clarified Their Hiding Of Data Breach
Careem justified their decision to not inform their users earlier. An official said that we had to ensure that we have all the information before we notify our customers. She further added that Careem started working with Dubai Authorities as soon as the company got aware about the data breach. She clarified that we did not notify users because we did not to make hackers alert about the data leak. Careem also asked its users to avoid opening links and emails from unfamiliar or suspicious sources.
