According to the new US study, Google searches for sexual harassment are significantly raised since the #MeToo movement.
Google searches for sexual harassment facts have seen a rise after the beginning of #MeToo movement. Last year, film producer Harvey Weinstein faced sexual assault allegations. However, actress Alyssa Milano encouraged affected people to bring out their stories through the #MeToo trend.
During the study, researchers analyzed Google searches for sexual harassment from 1st January 2010 to 15th June 2018 related to the sexual assault and harassment. However, during last 8 months of study, after #MeToo began, 40 to 54 million Google searches were reported.
Overall volume for this topic was 86% greater during these 8 months than what researchers calculated would have occurred in the absence of #MeToo based on their analysis of the earlier years of the study.
Searches related specifically to reporting sexual harassment and assault were 30% greater than expected over the last eight months of the study. However, searches related to preventive training for sexual harassment and assault were 51% greater than expected.
