Pakistan to Launch 5G Services by June 2025: Spectrum Auction Set for April

Pakistan is gearing up to launch 5G services nationwide by June 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation. The Ministry of IT and Telecom unveiled the rollout schedule during a parliamentary session, detailing the steps leading to the spectrum auction.

5G Spectrum Auction Planned for April 2025

According to official documents, the government plans to hold the 5G spectrum auction in April 2025. The auction will cover critical bands, including 3500 MHz, 2600 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 700 MHz, which are essential for delivering high-speed, uninterrupted internet services.

The Ministry of IT and Telecom is working closely with the National Economic Research Associates (NERA), a consulting firm guiding the rollout process. NERA is set to submit its recommendations to the Spectrum Advisory Committee next month, focusing on key reforms such as:

  • Spectrum pricing strategies.
  • Trading conditions for telecom operators.
  • Revisions to the existing taxation structure.

Policy Approval Timeline

The federal government is expected to approve the 5G policy draft in April 2025. Following the auction in May, telecom operators will have the necessary resources to launch 5G services across Pakistan by mid-2025.

A Step Toward Digital Transformation

The introduction of 5G technology aims to revolutionize Pakistan’s telecom sector by providing ultra-fast internet connectivity. The IT Ministry views this move as a pivotal step in modernizing the country’s digital infrastructure, enhancing communication networks, and boosting economic growth.

The 5G rollout aligns with Pakistan’s broader vision of integrating cutting-edge technology to foster innovation and improve public services.

Impact of 5G in Pakistan

The nationwide availability of 5G services is expected to:

  • Improve internet access in urban and rural areas.
  • Drive advancements in e-commerce, healthcare, and education.
  • Support the development of smart cities and IoT (Internet of Things) solutions.

With a clear roadmap in place, Pakistan is on track to join the global 5G network by June 2025. The upcoming spectrum auction and subsequent rollout demonstrate the government’s commitment to modernizing the telecom sector and propelling the nation toward a digital future.
