Pakistani mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Anita Karim has left her mark in history by becoming the first professional woman to win a MMA fight in Pakistan. The Professional MMA League Infinite Championship milestone event held in Islamabad on Saturday.
Anita Karim took part in the title match of the 52kg women category and gave a breathtaking performance, crushing Iran’s Parisa Shamsabadi in the first round itself. It is the first time in Pakistan history that the country has won a historic victory in the sport of MMA, with Karim being the first professional MMA fighter to win a title fight in his hometown.
Anita Karim is an MMA fighter based in Hunza and already has an impressive track record of winning competitions worldwide. She has committed to her sport. Few months back, she made a tense phone call to her parents stating that she was moving out of university to follow a fully professional career in MMA.
MMA is a full contact combat sport, which incorporates the art of boxing, grappling, karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and kickboxing. The sport has a bad reputation in its severity, in most cases leaving the fighters with bruised bodies, swollen eyes, and sometimes injured.
With this victory, Anita Karim has not only elevated her personal career but also put Pakistan on the global MMA map. Fans and aspiring fighters across the country have celebrated her achievement, hailing it as a significant moment for women in sports.
