Mohammad Amir vs Babar Azam: The Rivalry Heats Up in PSL 10

Quetta Gladiators’ star pacer Mohammad Amir once again made headlines by dismissing Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam during their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 clash at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday. Amir’s early breakthrough set the tone for Gladiators’ commanding 64-run victory, keeping them firmly in contention for the playoffs.

In the highly anticipated encounter, Mohammad Amir trapped Babar Azam leg-before wicket (LBW) with a brilliant in-swinger during the third over of Zalmi’s innings. This was the second time in the tournament that Amir had removed Babar, having earlier dismissed him for a duck in their first meeting.

Amir’s celebration after the wicket became a talking point among fans. The left-arm pacer ran jubilantly toward the Gladiators’ dugout, making a unique gesture that energized both the team and the spectators.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Mohammad Amir reflected on the significance of such rivalries in T20 cricket.

“Whether on the field or on social media, these rivalries entertain people, especially in T20s—that’s the main goal,” Amir said. “As a bowler, my role is to tease the batter and show aggression, while the batter aims to score runs. These things should happen, but within limits. My fans post my videos, Babar’s fans post his. It’s all great for the tournament.”

Respect for Babar Azam: Amir’s Tactical Approach

Despite the intense competition, Amir showed full respect for Babar Azam, acknowledging him as a “big player.” Amir shared insights into his bowling strategy, explaining that he anticipated Babar would be ready for an outswinger and instead brought the ball back in.

“Babar Azam is a big player, there is no doubt in that. My plan is always to utilize the swing with the new ball. Whoever it is, whether Saim or Babar, I try to capitalize on their weaknesses. I thought Babar would be prepared for the outswinger, so I tried to bring it back in,” Amir added.

Quetta Gladiators’ victory was further bolstered by Faheem Ashraf’s remarkable five-wicket haul, which dismantled Peshawar Zalmi’s batting lineup. The 64-run win has significantly boosted the Gladiators’ hopes of qualifying for the PSL 10 playoffs.

With Mohammad Amir’s exceptional form and the Gladiators’ strong bowling attack, the team looks poised to make a deep run in the tournament.
